7 Must Read Books To Add To Your Reading List This Summer

Books are man’s best friend and if you don’t read, well you are unfortunately missing out on a lot of wisdom. Apart from doing the obvious work of improving our vocabulary, books take you to another place, dimension or the world. You cannot explore so much on your foot as you can with a single book and all the book nerds will agree with me. I have compiled the list of 7 books that you should give a read and I promise you they will be worth your time.

1. The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg

Our actions make our habits and our habits make us. If you have fallen into the trap of wrong habits and you are nowhere near to getting out of it, then this is the book you should read. Changing our habits is obviously not a simple task but it is worth a try and let Duhigg guide you through the process.

2. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

This book will rip your heart and you will be shocked with the inhumanity that exists in some parts of our world. But amidst that struggle and grief, how the two protagonists, Mariam and Laila form the pure bond of mother and daughter is what will keep you going till the last page.

Khaled Hosseini is one of the few authors who have written about Afghanistan and that too beautifully. He is one of my favourites and you should also read his other famous book – The Kite Runner.

3. To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee

This one is popular among the Literature students all over the world and not without a reason. If you want to explore the prejudice, love, innocence, hatred and hypocrisy entangled with humour, then this is the book you should read. Published in the 1960s this one is a timeless classic and explores human behaviour in a different way.

4. The Jungle by Upton Sinclair

Many of my friends love reading about history and how things used to be. And after listening to theories, even I am convinced that learning about the past is not always a bad idea. If you are a history buff, then you will enjoy reading this book as it elucidates the hardships of the immigrants and factory workers of the 19th century.

5. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J K Rowling

If you haven’t read Harry Potter, then you have not seen how far the human imagination can go. This became a cult classic and every 90s kid loves Harry, Hermoine and Ron. Their story is one that you cannot miss. The movies are also good but a person who loves books cannot do away with them because the books always have the details.

6. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

A book based on the universal theme of love. This novel by Jane Austen may not belong to our time, but it did give us Mr. Darcy and we have always dreamed of meeting our Mr. Darcy some day.
